About Skate Newham

Skate Newham is a not-for-profit consultation group aiming to promote the building of skateparks and skateboarding friendly spaces in the London Borough of Newham. We aim to activate dead urban spaces to evolve them into safe, skateable, community facilities suitable for all skill levels. We are working in partnership with the London Borough of Newham, alongside applying for grants and crowdfunding towards project builds and community events.

Skate Newham’s mission was borne out of the realisation that despite being one of London’s most densely populated boroughs, until very recently Newham had no community skate spaces. There are 750,000 active skateboarders in the UK. Of Newham’s estimated 351,000 population, there are approximately 3,861 active skateboarders (Data source Skate GB, 2021). Until now, the majority of these people have had to travel to other London boroughs to skate because of this lack of facilities close to their homes.

Skate Newham’s first project is in collaboration with the Rainbow Community Garden in Brampton Park, East Ham, London, E6. We successfully built a skate ramp and skateable area next to the Rainbow garden, in partnership with LBN People Powered Places. This project will evolve over time to include skateable sculptures set within a green landscape, where people of all ages can freely enjoy skateboarding at all levels, within a safe, inclusive and inspiring space.
