As part of our Newham Heritage Month Project we have completed a series of workshops leading up to our September exhibition.
The workshops allowed people to explore their own skateboarding journey through art. We used the grant money to invest in and build on the already existing skateboard community in Newham.
Thankfully now there are more and more skateboarding sites in Newham since Skate Newham was founded. This was not always the case and so residents for years were traveling outside of Newham to skateboard and even to teach skateboarding.
With the grant we have been able to document and record the personal stories of skateboarders in Newham through art but also grow the skateboarding community. To do this we also purchased a shed to act as a canvas for the exhibition as well as a central hub for skateboarding lessons to operate from.
