25 Years of Deafroots: Deaf Community Heritage Celebration

Thursday 18 September 2025, 5 - 7:30pm
|

Deafroots has a 25-year history of supporting Deaf and hard of hearing people across Newham and the surrounding areas.

The organisation is committed to celebrating the valuable contributions Deaf and hard of hearing individuals make to society. At the same time, it works to raise awareness of the ongoing inequalities and barriers they face in everyday life.

As part of Newham Heritage Month, Deafroots will celebrate 25 years of supporting Deaf and hard of hearing people in Newham. This community-led exhibition will showcase the rich history of Deafroots and the voices of local Deaf residents through a visual journey of photos, leaflets, video memories, and personal stories.

The display will include:

  • Storytelling panels
  • BSL video stories
  • Easy-read captions for full accessibility

The exhibition honours the experiences and achievements of Deaf people while highlighting the cultural heritage of Newham’s Deaf community.
