Newham Libraries and Newham Bookshop present our fantastic final event for Newham Heritage Month. Onjali answers questions from Park Primary school children about her life as an author and aid worker both in Newham and overseas in answer to the theme of Newham Heritage Month 2020 “Making a Home in Newham”.
Onjali Q Raúf is the founder of Refugee Aid Team which delivers emergency aid supplies to refugees in northern France and Greece; and Making Herstory, an organisation mobilising men, women and children from all walks of life to tackle the abuse and trafficking of women and girls in the UK and beyond. Her first novel, The Boy At The Back of The Class, won the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize and The Blue Peter Book Award for Best Story. The Star Outside My Window published in October 2019 and she wrote a World Book Day 2020 title – The Day We Met The Queen. Her next book, The Night Bus Hero, will be published in October.
