Exploring the Heritage of World Textile Techniques with East London Textile Arts

This event will include an exhibition of the hangings, costumes, puppets and fabric designs that have been created by members of ELTA over the years.

You will be able to explore the textile heritage of the diverse borough and join us as we embroider throughout the day. 

To celebrate the techniques that have inspired ELTA’s  projects, why not have go at Bengali Kantha, Broderie Anglaise or Tudor raised embroidery stitches?

You can even try embroidering designs from Africa, Asia, China and Eastern Europe; we will also have a selection of designs from our previous projects to embroider.

There will be a screening  ELTA films, created for various projects over the years,  and a fashion photo shoot – an opportunity to be photographed in some of our embroidered costumes. 

All abilities, ages and skill levels welcome and all materials provided free of charge.
