Art in the Park: Olympic Park poetry reading

East London based community artists Sylvia Morgado and Sylvie Belbouab present ‘Art in the Park’.

Together they will work with a group of 12 young people from Newham to revisit the Cultural Olympiad and its heritage.

The aim is to bring awareness to the cultural Olympiad, the incredible breadth of cultural events that took place surrounding the London Olympics of 2012, and to offer training and activities so participants can access more opportunities in the cultural sector.

The young people will take a tour with the two artists who will share stories and curiosities about the sculptures that mingle with the landscape of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. This will be followed by a poetry writing workshop inspired by the tour. The programme will conclude with this public performance to family and friends.

About us

Both community artists are based and work in East London and are passionate about their local area. Sylvia Morgado has studied at University of East London in 2010. With an interest in poetry and sculpture, she was a correspondent for a news agency and joined many of the Cultural Olympiad events. As not everyone is aware of the Cultural Olympiad, Morgado is eager to revisit and share this knowledge with local communities.

Sylvie Belbouab is a photographer who has lived in Newham for 20 years and has been documenting major social events and making portraits of residents, telling their stories and documenting the local history.
