Alex Oma-Pius set up IROKO Theatre Company in 1996 and moved to Stratford in 1997. Over 20 years later, Newham continues to be home to Alex and IROKO, playing an active and important role in the community.

Alex formed IROKO in order to increase the understanding and appreciation of African culture and arts. Alex draws on African art forms to enhance learning, skills, education as well as improve people’s health and well being. He draws on the communal activities in African events with inclusiveness being a key ethos of IROKO.
