Integrating Special Sports Day for SEND Children

As London Borough of Newham is one of the most diverse boroughs in London, we are hosting a mini sports day for the underrepresented faith-based Educational and Health Care plan (EHC) and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) children. Our project, Integrating Special Sports, is hosting a mini sports day for EHC (SEND) children in West Ham Park on the 25th of June from 10 am to 2 pm.

The London 2012 Paralympic Games were a major international event for athletes with disabilities. Events like these encourage those with disabilities to be more involved with the community and gain the confidence to participate in such events. The sports event will enable children to help them overcome isolation from their peers and interact with others. The events will be structured and planned around the capability of the participants.

We have been working with faith-based special educational needs children since 2009 in the London Borough of Newham. These children do not have similar facilities available as their peers. They are underrepresented, and the gap needs to be filled so they too can experience extra curriculum activities and intertwine their faith. Increasing their confidence will be a step towards them growing their confidence and being able to participate in events specially designed with their capabilities and abilities in mind.

We will have various stalls on the day offering therapy for EHC and SEND children and their families, food and drinks stalls, workshops with sports-minded individuals, and other relevant stalls.

Our mini athlete participants will be children on Educational Health Care Plan needs (SEND). This event is open to families and others to attend and make this day important to support the children. Other Newham VCFS are welcome to attend too.
