Embroidery in the Bandstand! Workshop inspired by Bangladeshi Techniques

Historical events highlight the movement of people to and from London Docks and South Asia in the age of steam driven ocean liners of the 1900’s – crew from Newham and sailors from South Asia and Bangladesh in particular.

Designs That Travel looks at the rich textile traditions which have travelled from Bangladesh. Learn traditional embroidery skills with Bangladeshi women shaped by their stories and the designs which have travelled with them.

When you attend this outdoor event you will be provided with a free pack of materials to complete an embroidery, with the chance to exhibit your work in a group exhibition at The Gate Library, Forest Gate in July.

This workshop is for Newham Residents. You will be asked for your address and postcode when you register.

All levels of ability welcome, no prior knowledge required. You will be guided by textile enthusiasts Ellie Burkett and Shofa Miah who will have beautiful khetha quilts to hand to inspire you as you stitch.
