St Luke’s Church 150th Anniversary Exhibition

The St Luke’s 150th Anniversary board exhibition has been prepared in collaboration with the Custom House and Canning Town Renewal Project and Eastside Community Heritage. St Luke’s Church is a Grade II listed building. The boards showcase the history of the church, the key people that made massive contributions to the area like Father Goose and the ever changing landscape of Canning Town against the constant backdrop of the church.

The exhibition is held in the Father Goose room where you’ll be able to walk around and appreciate the detail covered on each board. The exhibition not only covers St Luke’s church over the years but it also includes the impact the church has made on the community. You’ll be able to take in some fun facts too, like learning about Cannon Buckley who featured in newspaper articles in 1910, 1911 & 1912 for holding 34, 35 and 37 marriage services on Christmas Day 1910, 1911 & 1912.

You’ll also be able to see what impact WWII had on the area including information on the South Hallsville School Disaster that took place on 10 th September, 1940 and the bombs that landed near to the church and the impacts on the building.
