’Minted!’ The Rise of Trebor Sweets in Forest Gate

Do you want to hear about how a small factory in Forest Gate quickly turned into the largest manufacturer of sweets in the UK?

If so, come and join us to learn more about the mysterious Trebor Works building on Katherine Road!

The Event

Now a block of stylish residential flats, we’ll start at the beginning and learn more about how Trebor started and the significance of the building’s history in the company’s tremendous success over the years. We’ll also be joined by the amazing Matthew Crampton, storyteller, folk singer and writer of ‘The Trebor Story’. He’ll tell us more about East London in the late nineteenth century and how sugar was boiled to create some of the iconic sweets we know and love (as well as a few that didn’t make the cut when the company was taken over!)

We’ll end the session with an arts and crafts workshop, where participants will get the chance to design their own vintage-style sweet wrappers – inspired by the original artwork used for Trebor products.
