About Maryam Huq
Maryam Huq is a British-Bangladeshi Illustrator and founder of ‘VividbyMaryam’. Maryam’s work primarily consists of creating bold, vibrant artwork based on her Bangladeshi roots and heritage.
Following a trip to the Newham Archives, Maryam was inspired to complete her project on the Trebor Works after coming across a photo of the original Robertson and Woodcock sweets delivery van. The converted factory now sits on Katherine Road, its impressive exterior piquing the interest of passers-by and serving as a memory of Trebor’s humble roots in the local community of Forest Gate.
For Newham Heritage Month 2024, Maryam will be creating a short illustrated booklet on Trebor’s vibrant past. Later in the year, she will also deliver an event where residents can learn more about the Trebor Works building and how it has contributed to Newham’s heritage. Attendees will also be given the opportunity to take inspiration from the sweet-making process, to create their own artwork.
