The Greenway, from Super Sewer to City Meadow

Join local photographer Keith Martin on a fascinating tour discovering the history of the super sewer. As London’s population grew, and its rivers became open sewers of smells and disease, Joseph Bazalgette devised a plan to clean up the city. Learn about this great feat of Victorian engineering, its history and how we use it today.

During the walk there will be opportunities to photograph along the Greenway. We will look at the changing  urban landscape, search out signs of Bazalgette’s original engineering marvels, and have a chance to enjoy the rewilding and planting that has taken place along the route of the Northern Outfall sewer. Bring your camera or smart phone if you would like to take photos.

Meeting point is outside Hackney Wick overground station, London E9 5TS. We will then walk for 6 minutes to start the tour.
