Beckton Gasworks was once the largest gasworks in Europe, employing 4,500 local people and supplying 4.5 million customers at its peak. During its 100 years of operation, the site had its own railway system which connected to a series of Victorian piers that still exist today.
Since its closure in 1969 its created the Beckton Alps, a ski slope inaugurated by Princess Diana and gained fame as an iconic setting for various film, TV and music productions.
It is now owned by St William (part of the Berkeley Group) who want to invite you to join us for a free history tour to learn more about this unique site and the proposals for its future development.
Due to health and safety reasons the site tours are only available to over 18s. There are steps along the route and the ground is very uneven so walking boots are required.
