About this record

For many families, visiting Newham City Farm was not just an enjoyable day out but a necessity, a place to relax, destress, regulate emotionally and physically as well as for learning. For parents and carers of people with SEND, children and adults, it was an important place for diversion, social interaction and meeting others. The written and oral accounts from families here are representative of many.

Farmer for a Day

The Farmer for a Day was a weekend and holiday opportunity enjoyed by many young people. Kasia Fallan, whose father, Pete, was for a time the Farm Education Officer too, was one such young person who found the Farmer for a Day experience rewarding. Kasia, currently an MA Illustration student, designed the publicity poster for the “Straight from the Horse’s Mouth” exhibition featuring the font style from the Newham City Farm logo and familiar, beloved animals such as Romulus (donkey), Pegasus (barn owl), Blaze (Shire horse) and Kookie (kookaburra).
