We came up with ‘Carpenters Call Out’ as a progression of work we were already doing on Carpenters Estate when Covid-19 lockdown was imposed in March 2020.
This project is called Supporting Wall – an initiative working with the community to produce personalised digital scrapbooks exploring ‘what underpins community’ and what makes the Carpenters Estate unique. The digital books will inspire graphics students from University of East London to produce two pieces of public art, to be exhibited in the heart of the estate.
Supporting Wall is commissioned by Stratford and West Ham’s Community Neighbourhood and supported by London City Airport’s Community Fund.

Why A Pub Quiz?
Given the restrictions of social distancing and isolation during the Covid-19 lockdown that has been going on since March 2020, we had to pause our participatory projects. This got us thinking…
How can we reach the Carpenters community, share their stories and celebrate the rich heritage of the greater Carpenters area with the rest of the borough for Newham Heritage Month in 2020?
We had already made links with key members of the community, Carpenters and Docklands Centre, the Community Hub and the local shop…. that only left the pub!
The Carpenters Arms, centrepiece of the community and the perfect location for a co-devised virtual pub quiz.

A creative ‘call out’ to share your forgotten photos, objects, anecdotes, memories and soundtracks about living on Carpenters Estate. To feature in an online gallery.
We would like to send you monthly emails spotlighting heritage content in Newham, as well as updates and opportunities to be involved in next year's festival. Be the first to hear about new projects, funding opportunities and ways to be involved.
