Sound Waves: Celebrating 60 years of music in Newham

This is a relaxed afternoon for people to come together and share memories of Newham’s music scene from the 1960s to today – from youth clubs and gigs to concerts, house parties and nights out in local clubs.

We’d love you to:

• Bring along photos, flyers, or keepsakes from music events in Newham
• Share your memories of venues and nights out
• Enjoy tea, cake, music and good company
• Hear updates on what the Sound Waves: Music in Newham project has uncovered so far

Your contributions will help build the Sound Waves archive, which will feed into our exhibitions, publication and website launching in November.

Sound Waves: Music in Newham is an initiative by Rendezvous Projects CIC to celebrate and preserve the rich musical heritage of the London Borough of Newham. This project is documenting Newham’s diverse music history, focusing on venues and underrepresented communities over the past 60 years.

Rendezvous Projects is an artist-run Community Interest Company that explores social and cultural histories of places and communities through creative and ambitious projects. Our work presents stories in new and inviting ways, to establish narratives that may have been forgotten, underrepresented or ignored.
