Cody Dock Wild Botanical Clay Workshop

Guided by ceramicist Esther Palmer, participants will use provided foraged materials such as twigs, flowers and leaves, in conjunction with their artefacts and trinkets, to create their own unique imprinted clay tiles. This workshop seeks to reference the history of Bow Porcelain, one of the country’s most prolific ceramic manufacturers, which was located on the North side of Stratford High Street near Bow Bridge over the River Lea. The factory was known for its striking ornamental wares and the use of elaborate botanical decoration. Participants will be able to incorporate these historical decorative styles, in conversation with their own mark-making. Our Clay Workshop utilises air-drying clay, removing the requirements of kiln firing, so pieces will be able to be taken home on the day. This workshop seeks to explore Newham’s heritage as a place of incredible creativity and craftsmanship.
