About The Story Collectors
This project was designed by Newham’s Planning team and funded by the Greater London Authority, Historic England and The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
Seven Newham residents were recruited to find out more about what happens to buildings, how they are protected, how whole areas in Newham can be described, what the council does and how people who live here can have their say. Over the course of six months from January – June 2024, the Story Collectors received training in oral history techniques, editing interviews, vox pop filming, photography and archive research skills. They undertook independent research into areas of interest including Green Street, Central Park, places of worship and spaces important to local communities.
