Peter Williams & Mark Gorman

Contributor Type:
Individual

Peter Williams has lived in Newham for over 40 years, and has long had an interest in local history. Peter worked for Newham Council for over 35 years in the housing service, and has extensive knowledge of the area, and a strong interest in how housing has developed over time.

Mark Gorman has lived in Forest Gate since the 1980s. After a working life in international development, in recent years he has had more time to develop his interest in the history of this part of east London. He has focussed especially on the contests over open spaces threatened by development as London has grown over the past two centuries.
Mark and Peter have collaborated on a number of history projects relating to Forest Gate and Wanstead Flats.

As part of Newham Heritage Month, Peter and Mark have supported groups with their research on a number of topics including the history of shops and the development of Forest Gate.
