I’m generally interested in the History of things full stop! But having been born/raised in Newham & returned here in my retirement, I find my attachment to certain buildings, places, people has prompted me to review my relationship with such & the effects these may have had on my & others’ lives.
Certainly seeing things from my now mature stage of life can be both emotional & enlightening. I have a particular fondness for the Old Canning Town Library building, recognising now its almost epiphanic effect on me 53 years ago (when I was 17). Maybe it was as important for others too?
