I am co-writing a play with Greg Benson from the Reinstate Project called The Workers United which tells the story of The Silvertown Workers Strike of 1889. The play will recall a time in our history that has been forgotten. A time when unskilled men and women from Silver’s Gutta Percha factory faced starvation in an attempt to earn a decent living wage and improve their working conditions. Reinstate have been very much involved from the outset and have supported this project with creative input and meeting space. Myself and Greg plan to draw on the creativity of individuals at Reinstate to bring the project to life to include videography, marketing and making the space performance ready. Reinstate will join us during our community engagement phase at various groups around the borough to film content where permission has been granted and to highlight on their social media.

I am also working with the Leytonstone play reading group who will host a preliminary reading of the first draft of the play on June 9th. The project is being managed by Patricia Regis. Patricia is an ambassador for the Theatre Royal, an enthusiastic Community Connector, Activist and lifelong advocate of Newham.
