Annie Birch

Contributor Type:

Annie Birch is a teacher of Art, English, Drama and Community Development. She lives in Forest Gate, Newham.

Annie believes that Newham is one of the best places in the world to live and learn because of the diversity of our community and that exploring via the Arts, as a community, is the best way to discover and share hidden parts of our identities, develop new understandings and enhance our relationships with others.

We are all artists. Children are usually better at it than adults because they are less self conscious and haven’t forgotten how to play.

This inter-cultural and inter-generational project has enabled our children to create works of art alongside their own family members and other families in Newham, exchanging photos and family stories along the way.

Throughout May and June, Annie and the families have met regularly online in a creative process developed just for “Lockdown”, and all participants, children and adults, want to share their favourite art piece and what they have learnt about our heritage, traditions, family stories, languages and cultures.
