Newham Heritage Month community grants launched for 2023 to shine a light on the borough’s creative heritage.
Newham Heritage Month will be back for its fourth exciting year in June 2023. We are offering grants of up to £8,000 for you to be part of this annual festival of in person and online events made by Newham’s community for the community.
The theme for next year will be Our Creative Newham: Newham’s Arts and Cultural Heritage. From music halls and pioneering theatre, to legendary painters and pop stars, Newham has a rich artistic heritage. We want to hear ideas for projects that will research our borough’s creative past.
The month of performances, exhibitions and activities will explore the history of music, theatre, art, fashion and more. The vibrant programme will showcase hidden stories of the borough and their impact on present-day Newham.
Grants of up to £5,000 for individuals and up to £8,000 are available for constituted groups and organisations. The deadline to submit applications is Monday 12 December. Applications can be made here.

An Inspiration Day will be held on Saturday 12 November for groups and individuals to visit Newham’s Archives at Stratford Library to gain ideas for projects. This is an opportunity to also meet the Newham Heritage Month team and discuss ideas. This can be booked here.

Newham Heritage Month, generously funded by National Lottery Heritage Fund and Royal Docks Team, is organised by Newham Council as part of Newham Unlocked.

Newham’s Archives and Local Studies search room is located at Stratford Library. Available for public access are a range of resources to find out about the history of Newham and its people including local newspapers, local parish and council records dating from 17th century to today, school records, electoral registers, historical maps, books, newsletters, and an extensive photographic collection as well as museum artefacts (which are not on display). The Local Studies search room is accessible by appointment only.
