Newham Heritage Month is back for a sixth year, with £100,000 worth of grants available and a brand new theme. This year the festival will take place in September 2025 with the theme ‘Newham At 60’, celebrating our borough’s sixtieth anniversary.
In 2024 we funded 16 projects through the community grants programme, some of which are featured in the above video. This year we are offering grants of up to £8,000 for you to be part of this annual festival of in person and online events made by Newham’s community for the community.
In 2025 Newham celebrates its 60th anniversary as a borough. Potential projects could celebrate the people and places that have made Newham the unique borough that it is and have contributed to its development over time. Your project could focus on individual members of the community, special places across the borough, activist movements, creative minds or specific moments in time.
Projects will be expected to take part in our heritage training programme, undertake research into their chosen subject, produce records for the website and contribute events to September’s festival programme, which comprises performances, workshops, exhibitions and other activities.
Grants are available of up to £5,000 for individuals and £8,000 for constituted groups and organisations. The deadline to submit applications is 10am on Friday 21st March 2025. Applications can be made here.

An Inspiration Day will be held on Monday 17 February for groups and individuals to view items from Newham’s Archives at Stratford Library to gain ideas for projects. This is an opportunity to also meet the Newham Heritage Month team and discuss ideas. This can be booked here.
An online grant surgery will be held on Wednesday 19 February to support those who are considering applying. This can be booked here.
Newham Heritage Month, generously funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, is organised by Newham Council.
